The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered two warehouses filled with expired drugs at No. 269, Sam Mbakwe Road (formerly Faulk’s Road) in Aba. This information was released in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.
Reports indicate that some suspects were able to remove several cartons of expired drugs that had been relabeled before security reinforcements arrived. The agency’s statement noted, “#AbaUpdates: Two warehouses located at No. 269, Sam Mbakwe Road (formerly Faulk’s Road), Aba, were found to contain expired drugs.
“During the operation, it was noted that suspects had taken away some cartons of expired but relabeled drugs prior to the arrival of the security team.”
In a related effort in Umumeje, Umuocheala, Osisioma LGA, NAFDAC seized 140 tonnes of expired drugs, not including additional products confiscated from drug stores at Ariaria International Market.
During this crackdown, NAFDAC officials collected 178 drug samples for laboratory analysis to assess their composition and potential health risks. The statement concluded, “From the warehouse in Umumeje, Osisioma LGA, we evacuated 140 tonnes of expired drugs, excluding items seized from Ariaria International Market.”
