Comrade Obinna Ogbuaka (middle) and other contestants after the purchase of interest forms at NUJ Press Centre, Enugu
The immediate past Chairman of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Enugu National Station Chapel, Comrade Obinna Ogbuka, has bought interest form to contest the chairmanship position of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Enugu State Council, thereby challenging the second tenure ambition of the current Chairman, Comrade Sam Udekwe.
Comrade Udekwe, who has been accused of highhandedness, autocratic leadership and unjust treatment against members, assumed office as the Chairman of the NUJ Enugu State council on February 22, 2022, following the disqualification of the then people’s choice, Comrade Harrison Ogara, who is now the member representing Igboeze South Local Government Area in the Enugu State House Assembly.
Purchasing his form alongside other contestants in his camp, Comrade Ogbuka assured his supporters of prudence, result oriented and transparent leadership, noting that the era of one-man-show and one-man-decision was over.
Also, the Director General of the Campaign Team (the Restoration Team), Comrade Lawrence Njoku, who is also the chairman of the correspondents’ chapel, after witnessing the purchasing of the forms, advised the contestants as well as their supporters to be civil and avoid campaign of calumny throughout the electioneering period. He said that “it is time to get it absolutely right in the Enugu State council of the NUJ.”
Earlier, shortly after the issuance of the forms to the contestants, the chairman of the credential committee, Comrade Sebastian Okafor, who congratulated the members of the Restoration Team for their peaceful dispositions, promised to abide by the provisions of the constitution in the conduct of the election.
Other aspirants who bought interest forms include Comrade Chinedu Adonu of the Correspondents’ chapel, for the Vice Chairman; Comrade Suleiman Onyeama of the State Information chapel, for the post of the Secretary; Comrade Fred Nnaji of the ESBS chapel, for the post of the Assistant Secretary; Comrade Stephanie Udeh of the Federal Information chapel – Treasurer; Comrade Sandra Ukeje of the Private Broadcast chapel – Financial Secretary; and Comrade Florence Anih of the State Information Chapel -Internal Auditor.
