Gov. Monday Okpebholo and Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom, Dr. George Oshiapi Egaborc
Gov. Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has ordered the immediate and indefinite suspension of the Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom, Dr. George Oshiapi Egabor, over recent incidents of kidnapping and killings in his domain.
The suspended monarch, who presides over the Uwano Kingdom in Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area of the state, was sanctioned following a spike in violent crimes reported in the area. The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Fred Itua, confirmed the suspension in a statement issued on Tuesday in Benin.
According to the statement, the decision followed the arrest of the monarch’s secretary, Chief Peter Omiogbemhi, by relevant security agencies in connection with a recent incident that led to the killing of a Palace Chief, John Ikhamate. Spokesperson, Colonel Appolonia Anaele said the state government viewed the situation as deeply troubling and vowed to restore peace and security in the area.
The statement added that the suspension was part of ongoing efforts by the state government to ensure traditional institutions uphold peace, order, and community responsibility.
