President, Enugu Metropolitan Lions Club, Lion Chibota Edozie, has admonished spinal cord patients never to indulge in self-pity because it could lead to depression. Edozie made the admonition last weekend when the club presented various items to spinal cord injury patients at the Orthopedic Hospital, Enugu, to mark World Spinal Cord Day.
The items donated at the Spinal Cord Injury Ward of the hospital include toiletries, surgical gloves, detergents, and cartons of toothpaste. Lion Edozie, who was a former patient of the ward, inspired the patients with her words of admonition, stressing that the spirit of self-pity could lead to depression, which could result in death in most cases.
The programme is part of the charity and humanitarian works undertaken by the International Lions Club, of which the Enugu Metro is a part.
In his own speech, the immediate past President of Lions Club Enugu Metro, Lion Emma Agbo commended the authority or leadership of the hospital for the cleanliness of the entire hospital and the care given to patients.
He described the Orthopedic Hospital in Enugu as one of the best, noting that they have good staff who are eager to put their best based on the motivation of the management of the hospital. The glow on the faces of the patients aptly expressed their feelings, especially the encouraging and edifying words from the President, who they regarded as one of them.
Other members of the club also presented their personal items to the patients.
