The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has commenced an investigation into allegations that some of its personnel extorted ₦100,000 from a motorist along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road.

The allegation, which has sparked public concern, involves claims that officials of the agency demanded and collected the sum from a road user under questionable circumstances.

Reacting to the development, LASTMA management confirmed that a formal probe has been initiated to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident. The agency stressed that it maintains a zero-tolerance stance on corruption, extortion, and any form of misconduct by its officers.

According to the authority, any personnel found culpable at the end of the investigation will face appropriate disciplinary measures in line with established regulations.

LASTMA further called on members of the public to report cases of harassment, bribery, or extortion involving its officials, assuring that all complaints would be treated with seriousness and confidentiality.

The agency reiterated its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and accountability in the discharge of its duties, particularly as it continues to manage traffic and enforce road regulations across Lagos. The outcome of the investigation is expected to shed light on the incident and reinforce public confidence in the agency’s operations.
