Blogger and social media influencer, Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack, has been remanded in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS. This follows his arraignment on Monday by the DSS.
Justice Crack was docked before a Federal High Court in Abuja for allegedly making a false claim that Nigerian military personnel are poorly fed. Prior to his arraignment on Monday, there were pockets of protests in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, by activists and other Nigerians demanding his immediate release.
Omoyele Sowore and Peter Akah were among those who joined the protest. Meanwhile, at the Federal High Court, Mark was charged by the DSS with making a viral video post on his X handle (Justice Crack) in which he allegedly made a false claim that Nigerian military personnel are poorly fed.
When the three-count charge was read to the accused person, he pleaded not guilty. The prosecuting lawyer, Emmanuel Orubo, applied for a date to enable the prosecution to open its case. Orubo urged the court to remand the defendant in the custody of the DSS.
Defence lawyer, Marshall Abubakar, made an oral application for bail, which the court did not entertain, but ordered him to file a formal application for bail.
Ruling, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ordered that the defendant be remanded in the custody of the DSS and adjourned till May 25 for the commencement of trial and hearing of bail application, if any.
