The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Enugu State Chapter, has expressed deep sorrow at the death of ace sports broadcaster, Richard Asiegbu Snr. Asiegbu died at 71. He had since retired from active service in Radio Nigeria.
In a condolence message to the bereaved family, signed by the Secretary, Chibuike Peter, SWAN wished them the strength to bear the painful loss. The condolence message reads: “The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Enugu State Chapter, receives with deep sorrow the news of the passing of veteran sportscaster and ace journalist, Richard Asiegbu Snr.
”The Late Richard Asiegbu Snr was a distinguished voice in sports broadcasting whose contributions to journalism and sports development in Nigeria remain remarkable and enduring. His dedication, professionalism, and mentorship inspired generations of broadcasters and sports journalists across the country. As a former staff of Radio Nigeria, former Director-General of the Imo Broadcasting Corporation, and member of the Board of WABMA, he served the media industry with honour, excellence, and uncommon passion.
”His death on May 15, 2026, at the age of 71, is a painful loss not only to his family but also to the entire sporting and media community in Nigeria. SWAN Enugu State Chapter extends heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all who were touched by his impactful life and legacy.”
