Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested two male drug-peddling suspects in separate intelligence-led operations carried out in Nkanu East Local Government Area of the State.
NewsBits reports that the development is apparently in line with the Command’s sustained proactive policing and crackdown on criminal activities in the state. Quantities of substances suspected to be variants of Cannabis sativa and other illicit drugs were recovered from the suspects, according to the Command’s Spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe in a statement issued on Sunday.
Ndukwe said that in one of the operations, Police Operatives attached to the Surveillance Team of the Agbani Area Command, acting on credible intelligence, on 21st May 2026 at about 6:25 a.m., raided a black spot at Umuiba Nara in Nkanu East LGA and arrested one Ani James (male, aged 35).
He said that upon interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to engaging in the illicit buying and selling of “Loud,” “Colos,” and other variants of Cannabis sativa. He said several sachets and wraps containing the suspected illicit substances were recovered from the suspect.
Earlier, on 16th May 2026 at about 7:30 a.m., the Operatives, following actionable information, arrested one Edeh Ikechukwu (male, aged 50), of Isigwe Ugbawka in Nkanu East LGA, with large quantities of weeds also suspected to be Cannabis sativa. He said in the statement that the suspect confessed to being involved in the illicit drug trade for the past five years.
According to the spokesman, further investigations are ongoing, and necessary prosecutorial actions will be taken upon conclusion of investigations. Meanwhile, Ndukwe said that the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has reiterated the Command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-driven operations against criminal elements and illicit drug networks across the State.
Ndukwe said that the Giwa advised residents to remain law-abiding and continue to support the Police with credible and timely information.
