The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Enugu State Sector Command, has advised various groups and associations in the state to henceforth emulate the Seadogs in ensuring road safety on the roads.

NewsBits reports that during the weekend in Enugu, the Special Marshals in the state, and sector command in partnership with the Enugu Chapter of the National Association of Seadogs (NAS) and its Chapter in Houston, Texas, USA, held a one-day public enlightenment program on road safety.

The exercise, which was titled “Arrive Safely, Safety First,” was meant to sensitize drivers and other road users on the need to always imbibe the culture of safety on the roads. Addressing the gathering, the State Coordinator of the Special Marshals, Tony Orji, said that road safety issues actually should not be left to the staff and members of FRSC alone as it should concern all road users.

Orji particularly lauded what he regarded as the remarkable partnership between the Seadogs or NAS and the FRSC. Pleading with different groups and associations in the state, Orji advised them to always borrow a leaf from the Seadogs and contribute their quota to safeguarding lives on the roads.

“This combined enlightenment exercise today is not for drivers only, it is for all road users, just as campaigning for road safety is not only for Regular Marshals and Special Marshals,” he said.

Orji appreciated the Enugu Chapter of NAS and its Chapter in Houston, Texas, United States, for their commendable enlightenment program on the radio during the 2025 ember months safety campaigns. He was quick to add: “After seeing what you can do, we are all looking forward to a more robust partnership and continued collaboration in the future.”

However, the Cap’n of the Enugu Chapter of NAS, Oseloka Egbuchiem, had assured that the members at NAS in Enugu would “never back out of the campaign of enlightenment on safety on our roads”.

According to him, “We cherish the partnership with FRSC and the Special Marshals, and we will keep it as robust as the situation demands.” The Cap’n said that later in September, this year,  “we will join FRSC in the ember months safety campaign. We will build on the success of our last campaign on the radio, and we will do other things.”

Egbuchiem, who was represented by Harold Okonkwo, explained that the one-day enlightenment campaign was hinged on their desire to speak directly to commercial drivers. He said: “We chose three motor parks (Onitsha-South, Eastern Mass Transport, Enugu Transport Cooperation) at New Market to close out our 2025/26 Safety campaign because they offered the opportunity to meet a larger number of drivers and transporters at one place.”
