The relative political stability, equity, and peaceful coexistence in Enugu State, Nigeria’s SouthEast geopolitical zone has been attributed to the entrenched governorship rotation among the three Senatorial zones – Enugu East, West and North.

The Deputy National Chairman (DCN) (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ben Nwoye made the disclosure on Saturday at Okpara Square, Enugu, while addressing the huge political gathering during when stakeholders and residents of Enugu East Senatorial District publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah for second tenures in office.

NewsBits reports that Nwoye’s comment came not quite long after some key stakeholders in the State comprising the traditional rulers, academics, religious leaders, captains of industry, university students and the politicians themselves lauded the four co-authors of a new book on governorship rotation in the Coal City State.

Recall that the book entitled, “Zoning of Governorship Position in Enugu State: Evolution, Practice and Convention,” was presented to the public after it was unveiled at a historic ceremony held inside the Dome of the International Conference Centre, Independence Layout, Enugu.

The new book, which documents the evolution and impact of the governorship zoning arrangement in Enugu State was described by almost all the speakers on the occasion as a “cornerstone of peace and equity” in the state since it would serve as a vital reference materials for both the present and future generations.”

Nwoye, who spoke eloquently on the peace Enugu has witnessed over the years, stressed that the zoning arrangement had remained one of the major factors responsible for the peace and political stability enjoyed in the State since the return to democratic governance in 1999.

He said that the rotational system has ensured “fairness and inclusiveness” by giving each of the state three senatorial districts an opportunity to produce the governor. Nwoye said: “Rotation among the three senatorial districts has given us peace since 1999.”

The APC chieftain, noted that the arrangement had helped to foster a sense of belonging among the various political blocs in the state, thereby reducing tensions associated with the struggle for power.

Nwoye urged political leaders and stakeholders to remain committed to preserving the zoning formula, insisting that it had contributed significantly to the unity and development of the state. According to him, “The stakeholders should sustain the peaceful political atmosphere in Enugu State brought to us through the zoning of the governorship position.”

The APC deputy national chairman also lauded Governor Mbah for what he described as remarkable developmental strides across the state. He said the governor’s performance in office had demonstrated a commitment to improving infrastructure and governance, adding that he deserved the support of the people to complete a second term. Nwoye further maintained that continuity in governance would enable ongoing projects and reforms to be consolidated for the benefit of residents.

NewsBits reports that the endorsement event was attended by political leaders, community representatives, traditional and religious leaders from Enugu East, as well as supporters across the zone.

All the speakers at the ceremony, expressed satisfaction with the feat recorded by the President Tinubu and the governor Mbah-led administrations in the last three years, emphasising that the two political leaders deserved a second term in office.
