Security operatives have reportedly arrested security analyst, Bashir Kurfi, a prominent mediator known for facilitating dialogue between communities and armed groups in Katsina State, following allegations he made against the state government.
According to Katsina Reporters, before his arrest, Dr. Kurfi alleged that the Katsina State Government paid some bandit leaders N10 million each to enable them to perform the pilgrimage (Hajj) in Saudi Arabia.
“The Katsina State Government gave some bandit leaders N10 million each to perform this year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia,” Dr. Kurfi was quoted as alleging before his arrest. As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not issued an official statement explaining the circumstances surrounding Kurfi’s arrest.
Similarly, the Katsina State Government has yet to respond officially to the allegations. The claims made by Kurfi remain unverified, and there has been no independent confirmation of the allegations by the authorities.
