Chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Dr. Martin Chukwunwike, has said that the re-election of Governor Peter Mbah for a second tenure in 2027 “is sacrosanct”, insisting that nobody can scuttle it.
“I don’t think anything or anybody can truncate it,” said Dr Chukwunweike during an interview in his office. He reiterated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would record a landslide victory in the 2027 general election in the state.
The medical doctor-turned politician said that he didn’t regret dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC. He reiterated: “Obviously, APC will have a landslide victory in Enugu State. If it were possible, we would say it is a walkover. But because other contestants will get some votes from their families, I don’t think anything or anybody can truncate it.”
He lauded Governor Mbah for his performance in office, stressing that the governor used his first two years to demonstrate capacity and commitment to the development of Enugu State.
According to him, “When he came into government, the first two years he used to demonstrate his capacity, his ability, and his willingness to develop Enugu State. And he has endeared himself to Ndi Enugu. Most of the things he has done are quite known. I usually don’t like to enumerate them. Is it the roads, the International Conference Centre, or the Hotel Presidential?”
Chukwunwike further praised the governor for reviving abandoned projects.
He said: “He is a governor who revamps abandoned projects. Most governors, when they come in, abandon projects started by previous administrations. But he came and started completing most abandoned projects. The International Conference Centre was abandoned for 16 years under two governors. He came and finished it in 6 months. You can see that the place has transformed Enugu State.”
He reiterated his optimism on the apparent landmark victory in the 2027 election by Governor Mbah to enable him to secure a second term. “He is going to do a second tenure. He is on the right track, and Ndi Enugu have apparently accepted him as the sitting governor, because he is already there. It is not just because of the tradition of a second tenure. Chimaroke went twice, Sullivan went twice, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi went twice. So, I keep wondering why a working governor can’t go for a second tenure. His election is almost sacrosanct,” Chukwunweike said.
