Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, and his family after terrorists attacked his residence in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing one security guard and injuring another.
The development was reported by security analyst Zagazola Makama. According to the report, the operation followed credible intelligence and distress calls indicating coordinated attacks by armed terrorists on several communities in the area.
Military sources said the attackers stormed the rector’s residence at Tsohon-Tasha Street, where they killed his private security guard, Malam Isah Bello, 46, and injured another guard, Sharhabilu Haruna, 35, before attempting to abduct Dr. Yusuf, his wife and their two children.
However, troops reportedly intercepted a large group of the attackers, who arrived on motorcycles, engaged them in a gun battle and forced them to flee, abandoning the rector and his family.
“The troops responded swiftly, engaged the attackers with superior firepower and forced them to flee, abandoning the victims. The rector and his family were rescued unharmed,” the military sources said. However, the bandits moved some other locations and abducted other residents, including a lecturer.
In a related operation, the troops also foiled another kidnap attempt at Tungan Dorawa community in Barkeji Village after responding to a distress call about armed kidnappers targeting residents. Despite difficult terrain, the soldiers reportedly pursued the fleeing suspects, confronted them, and prevented the abduction.
The report added that troops simultaneously engaged another group of kidnappers operating within the same community and rescued a 56-year-old businessman, Alhaji Azaria, alongside 21 other residents who had been abducted from neighbouring homes. All the rescued victims were reported to be safe and receiving necessary support.
During the operation at the rector’s residence, troops also arrested a 45-year-old suspected informant, Falalu Yusuf, who is alleged to have provided intelligence to the attackers about their targets. The suspect has since been handed over to the Divisional Police Officer in Kaura Namoda for further investigation and possible prosecution.
