Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have foiled an attempted reprisal attack on a Fulani settlement in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, arresting two suspects linked to the incident.
The development was reported by security analyst Zagazola Makama. According to the report, troops of Sector 1, Operation Enduring Peace, deployed in Jengre, responded to a distress call at about 11:23 am on July 27 over an attempted attack on a Fulani settlement in Pandauda Community.
Preliminary findings, according to the report, indicated that the planned attack was allegedly in retaliation for the killing of a civilian, who was said to have been attacked by suspected herders after refusing to allow cattle to graze on his farmland.
Makama said the swift intervention of the troops prevented the incident from escalating into a wider communal clash.
“The troops responded promptly, foiled the reprisal attack and restored calm to the area,” Makama said.
Makama reported that two suspects were arrested during the operation and later handed over to the Nigeria Police, Jengre Division, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
According to the report, troops have maintained a security presence in the area to prevent further violence, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
