Mr Nwoba Chika Nwoba, a fierce critic of the Ebonyi State governor, Francis Nwifuru has cried out over the alleged arrest of his wife by policemen suspected to be from the Ebonyi State Police Command.
Nwoba, in a post he made Friday night on his social media pages, alleged that policemen stormed his Anambra residence in the dead of the night and took his wife after subjecting members of his household to torture. According to him, about 15 operatives were involved in the arrest.
He said his youngest sister called and informed him that at about 7:30 pm, over 15 police officers stormed his apartment in Awka and gained access through the ceiling, torturing all of them, including his wife, “telling them to reveal my location”.
Nwoba, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said the policemen beat up his wife with the butt of a gun and kicked her belly. “They took her away to an unknown destination up till now. They came by 7:00 pm today, 30th July 2026.
“A few minutes ago, they used my wife’s phone to speak to me, requesting that I must show up before my wife could be released; otherwise, they’d kill her. They told my younger ones expressly that Ebonyi Governor wants me alive or dead. That’s what’s happening currently.”
In a follow-up post Nwoba made Friday morning, he said the wife was still being held hostage. He wrote, “They refused to tell me their location. They told me over the phone that if I don’t appear, I should forget about her.
“According to my younger one, 13 of them wore police uniform, while two wore plain clothes. They called one of them CJ. The landlord of our estate sent some police officers to the compound, and upon arriving, they met them, and they told the landlord’s police that they came for an arrest.
While calling for the wife’s release, Nwoba said she did nothing to deserve the treatment they’re giving to her. “She cannot be punished on my behalf. No law supports that. They clearly yelled that ‘enough of the calling out of the Ebonyi State Government’.
“They should release my wife to go look after our baby. This is pettiness. She was cooking food when they struck. She didn’t eat before they took her away,” Nwoba wrote. His post has attracted thousands of reactions, with many questioning the arrest of the woman in place of her husband.
