The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has granted political parties an additional three days to submit the names of their candidates for the 2027 governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.
The commission announced on Saturday that the submission deadline, initially fixed for August 8, has been shifted to Tuesday, August 11, 2026. The extension was disclosed in a statement signed by Mohammed Haruna, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.
According to the electoral commission, the decision was taken after several political parties requested more time to conclude the nomination and submission of their candidates through INEC’s designated online platform.
INEC explained that the original deadline was contained in its revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election. The commission said the additional period would allow parties that were yet to complete the electronic submission of their candidates to do so before the new deadline.
