Suspected thugs attacked journalists and other people after an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Kano State on Saturday, damaging a Radio Nigeria and Pyramid FM vehicle.
The incident happened shortly after an APC-related political gathering at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano. Reports said the attackers targeted journalists who were leaving the venue after covering the event. They allegedly used machetes and knives to hit the Radio Nigeria vehicle, breaking its windows and damaging parts of the bus.
Five journalists were reportedly affected. They were Shafiu Abdullahi Panshekara, Abdulmajid Habib Isa Tukuntawa, Yakubu Abubakar Gwagwarwa, and Ibrahim Hussaini of Radio Nigeria, Pyramid FM Kano, as well as Abdulbaki Ali Ahmed Sharifai of Guarantee Radio.
Other people inside the Radio Nigeria vehicle included the orderly of the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Mariya Mahmud Bunkure, personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the political adviser to former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
According to reports, the attackers continued hitting the vehicle even though journalists and security personnel were inside, causing fear and confusion among those in the vehicle as they returned from the political event.
