All is set for the Umuchigbo Iji Nike Autonomous Community New Yam Festival in Enugu East Local Government Area, Enugu State, slated for Sunday, September 13 this month.
The festival, scheduled for 3 p.m., is being organised under the leadership of the Executive Chairman of Umuchigbo, Hon. Chief Afam Joseph Ogbene, popularly known as Akirika Chioku 1, Na Nike Kingdom.
The annual festival is expected to showcase the rich heritage, traditions, and unity of the people of Umuchigbo and Umuenwene, Iji Nike Autonomous Community. According to the invitation signed by Ogbene, the celebration will commence at his residence on Akirika Chioku Avenue, Nome Ogba Aniji Road, Umuchigbo Iji Nike Community.
The activities will thereafter proceed to Obodoeze Iji Village Square, Odangene, for the New Yam rites and masquerade display. The festival will also feature food, music and other cultural entertainment as the community celebrates the new yam season.
The organisers described the event as a celebration of “culture, community and thanksgiving”. In the invitation, Ogbene warmly called on the general public, sons and daughters of Umuchigbo, friends, and well-wishers to join the community for the celebration.
