The General Manager of Rangers International Football Club of Enugu, the Flying Antelopes, Barr. Amobi Ezeaku has said that the “Never Say Die” spirit of the team has been sustaining the team and propelling it to victory.
Ezeaku, who made the assertion today while addressing sports writers at Rangers Secretariat on the preparedness of the team to win more laurels both in Nigeria and Africa, said that many a time they had come close to relegation or losing crucial matches, but the never-die spirit and the doggedness of the players and the technical crew had always ensured victory for the Flying Antelopes.
Making reference to the 2026 Nigeria Professional League at which Rangers defeated Ikorodu City in Lagos to lift the NPFL Trophy, Amobi said many had lost hope and had started leaving the stadium in disappointment, but Rangers rose and got the needed victory and thus lifted the trophy for the 9th time.
The Rangers boss, however, attributed the team’s victory to the spiritual and financial backing of the governor of the State, Peter Ndubisi, as well as the Rangers fans and the sports writers.
“Today, I humbly announce before you with immense gratitude to Gov. Mbah. It is important to say that Gov. Mbah gave potential, will, and administrative backing to the team,” he said.
He expressed joy that within three years they were able to win the NPFL title twice. “In three years, Rangers have won two NPFL championships.” Speaking with gusto of the former exploits of his team, Rangers General Manager said that they were prepared to fight to win more laurels even for international engagements.
“We will prepare, we’ll fight to take the club forward,” he said, pointing out that it will not be a one-off thing. He used the opportunity to announce that Rangers have gotten a formidable women’s team that would participate in the NPFL women’s wing, saying that the screening for the female team is open to every young woman in Nigeria to participate.
To make Rangers thick and to stand the test of time as a team, Amobi said that they have formed a Rangers academy at Udi and are planning to establish Rangers Football Academy at Nsukka and in some parts of Enugu State, from where Rangers will be fed.
He pointed out that because of the ongoing rehabilitation of Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Rangers can not play their home matches in Enugu but would resort to other stadia in the South East, “because every state in the South East is home to Rangers.” He, however, disclosed that the management of Rangers does not toy with the players’ welfare, saying that they are among the clubs that pay players handsomely.
