The second edition of the 2026 Prime Sports Radio Real Estate Football League has officially kicked off in Enugu, the Coal City state, with winners to pocket five hundred thousand naira (500,000) in prize money.
The Enugu-based sports Radio station said the initiative is aimed at using the exercise to bring together key actors in the Real Estate space to entertain residents as well as showcase their business, adding that it’s also a way of encouraging development.
Our Correspondent reports that the tournament which began weekend is taking place at the Toscana Hotel sports arena, featuring a total of ten teams that would be slugging it out for close to a month period.
Speaking with sports writers shortly after the opening ceremony of the tournament, Managing Director of Prime Sports Radio, Mr. Okey Odogwu, has this to say: “this is another exciting season of football competition and entertainment in Enugu, we are also using it to educate residents on sports, and let sports encourage development”
“Prime Sports is trying to reach out to all segments of the society, and we started with the Real Estate league last year when we had the first edition, and intend to develop it more so as to extend it to other areas.
“You can see how sports is now making huge money for the people, especially the youths around the world; sports is now big business. And that is why a station like Prime Sports Radio has packaged this tournament.
“So, we are encouraging investors to embrace the programme, because it would also serve as a veritable platform for them to advertise their businesses. We have started with football, but also intend to venture into other sports.
“We are glad that the Real Estate actors are beginning to appreciate and see the need to promote and build the game. Also, use it as a platform for entertainment and advertisement.”
According to Odogwu, “Prime Sports is equally using the soccer competition for publicity’s sake, because presently in the contemporary world, land banking has become the biggest banking you can think about.
“So, we are promoting the sector as a way of encouraging development in Enugu state. And like I said earlier, this is an opportunity for them to relax and advertise.
Also speaking with sports journalists on the tournament, a member of the Enugu state House of Assembly, Representing Enugu East Rural Constituency, Hon. Raymond Ugwu, applauded Prime Sports Radio for the initiative, noting that sports has remained a veritable channel to engage youths in any society.
The lawmaker, posited that sports has the potential to address issue of social vices in the society, because when the youths are engaged with it, they won’t be thinking of committing crimes.
He disclosed that arrangements for his own youth football competition tagged: ‘Tomorrow is here Super Cup’ being organized for youths of his constituency have been concluded, adding that it had already been unveiled, but will formally commence with an open ceremony on October 3rd, 2026.
