There was confusion and tension at a railway line in Lagos on Friday morning when a 55-year-old motorist escaped unhurt after a moving train collided with his Honda car. The incident involved a train travelling towards Agege and a Honda car with registration number EKY 902 JT, which was extensively damaged.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), said its operatives and security personnel rescued the driver and removed the wrecked vehicle from the railway track, allowing the train to resume its journey.

LASTMA added that the damaged car was subsequently handed over to security personnel for investigation into the cause of the collision. Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, applauded the operatives and security personnel for their prompt response.

Bakare-Oki stated that their coordinated intervention demonstrated the importance of collaboration in managing emergencies involving railway operations and adjoining roads, urging motorists to exercise caution when approaching railway crossings and designated train corridors.

“Don’t attempt to cross railway tracks when a train is approaching or already in motion. Reckless disregard for railway safety protocols could precipitate devastating and irreversible consequences. Road users should always comply with established traffic and railway safety regulations,” he said.
