The Ishiagu Towu Development Union (ITDU) Enugu Branch has successfully conducted its executive elections, ushering in a new administration ready to pilot the affairs and developmental activities of the socio-cultural organisation for the upcoming tenure.

NewsBits learnt that the newly elected executive officers will pilot the administration of the 300-member town union within the next three years. But it’s not clear why the union doesn’t seem gender-sensitive enough to elect a female member into its new cabinet. Ishiagu Autonomous Community is the hometown of a former President of Nigeria’s Senate, and one-time Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Pius Anyim.

The highly anticipated election, which took place over the weekend, drew key stakeholders, community leaders, and delegates from across the region to witness the smooth transition of leadership and exercise their democratic franchise. The electoral proceedings were concluded with Pastor Emeka Ikuku emerging as the newly elected Chairman, securing the trust of the union to lead the executive team in delivering purposeful governance and unity.

Also, at the leadership rung of the ladder is Sir Patrick Uchenna, who was elected as Vice Chairman to support the incoming administration’s strategic vision. The key administrative engine of the union was entrusted to Mr. Aja Emmanuel, who assumed office as the Secretary, while Barr. Christopher Orieji was elected as the Assistant Secretary to bolster secretarial operations.

To ensure prudent financial management and accountability, Engr. Ukah Nnanna emerged as the Financial Secretary, complemented by Mr. Aja Okechukwu, who was elected to serve as the Treasurer of the union. Concluding the newly constituted executive council, Dr. Franklin Okeke was elected as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) to handle strategic communications, while Mr. Okafor Uchenna and Mr. Obinna Chukwu were sworn in as Provost and Director of Socials, respectively.

The electoral exercise culminated in a formal swearing-in ceremony, where the newly elected officials solemnly took their oaths of office and allegiance to uphold the charter and vision of the Ishiagu Towu Development Union. Following the election, the outgoing Chairman, Mr. Aja C. Aja, addressed the assembly, delivering a poignant farewell charge to the newly sworn-in executive committee.

In his valedictory remarks, Mr. Aja charged the incoming leadership to build upon the foundation established during his tenure and strive to surpass previous records of achievement. ”I admonish this incoming administration to do far better than we have done during our tenure and consistently move this union toward greater heights of unity, progress, and development,” Mr. Aja declared.

“Leadership is a continuous relay race, and as we hand over the baton today, our prayer is that your team reaches even greater milestones for the overall good of the Ishiagu Towu community,” the outgoing chairman added.

Speaking on behalf of the newly constituted executive council, the newly sworn-in Chairman, Pastor Emeka Ikuku, offered high praise to the outgoing administration for its dedication and noble service to the union. Pastor Ikuku acknowledged the substantial impact of the past executive body, noting that the outgoing chairman’s performance set a high benchmark for future governance within the organization.

”The immediate past chairman has indeed left behind very big shoes that are even bigger than my legs,” Pastor Ikuku remarked while reflecting on the legacy of his predecessor. However, now that the mantle of leadership has officially fallen upon me, I assure this assembly that I will do my absolute best, driven by the greatest desire to serve and uplift this union,” he confidently affirmed.

The historic event concluded with widespread congratulations from community members, who expressed optimism that the newly sworn-in executive council will foster harmony, drive communal development, and lead the Ishiagu Towu Development Union, Enugu Branch into a prosperous new era.
