Renowned literary icon, Prof Damian Opata, has been reported dead. The news of his demise flooded social media pages Friday evening, with many people expressing shock.
An Nsukka-based lawyer, Barr Frank Agbowo, posted news of the development on his page, Legal Expositions with Frank Agbowo. He wrote: “I just received the sad news of the departure of Professor Damian Opata, the man who distinguished himself in his career. Rest well, Sir! Nsukka will greatly miss you.”
Opata, a professor of English Language, retired from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). Upon his retirement, he has been active in politics, championing the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.
Opata was also active in Ohanaeze Ndigbo. As of the time of filing this report, details of his passing are still sketchy.
