As political electioneering gathers momentum for next year’s polls, the Chief of Staff to the Enugu State Governor, Barr. Victor Udeh has advised members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu West Senatorial District to mobilise support for the re-election of Governor Peter Mbah, President Bola Tinubu and other party candidates in the 2027 general elections.

Barr. Udeh advised the APC Enugu West Zonal Meeting held at the Awgu Local Government Headquarters at the weekend.

NewsBits reports that the historic meeting attracted former PDP acting National Secretary, Chief Sunday Ude-Okoye; members of the Enugu State Executive Council from the zone; local government chairmen; political appointees and other party stakeholders. The meeting was led by the APC Enugu West Zonal Chairman, Chief Chimaobi Nze.

Addressing a huge gathering, Udeh referenced the Mbah-led administration’s investments in education, healthcare, security, aviation and infrastructure as reasons for the people to support the government’s development agenda. He highlighted the establishment of Enugu Air, the construction of 268 Smart Green Schools and 260 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres, as well as the ongoing international hospital project.

The Chief of Staff also said that Enugu Air was expected to commence flights from Enugu to Gatwick Airport in the United Kingdom by December 2026, while a route to Guangzhou, China, was projected for the first quarter of 2027.

Udeh also spoke on power rotation in the state, advising Enugu West residents to consider the implications of their political choices ahead of the next election, arguing that Mbah’s re-election would provide a pathway for power to return to the district. He said: “Enugu West, we should not sell our birthright. Let us not listen to those who promise to do one term. They are deceiving us.”

He recalled the zone’s support for Mbah in the 2023 governorship election and urged residents to increase their support for the governor and other APC candidates in 2027.

Udeh also spoke on  Mbah’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, explaining that the decision followed efforts to resolve challenges within the former party. He maintained that the move had strengthened the state’s relationship with the Federal Government.

He cited the approval of a gas pipeline for the South-East by President Tinubu, alongside work on the Enugu-Onitsha, Enugu-Port Harcourt and Ninth Mile-Markurdi roads, as well as the rehabilitation of the Eastern Railway Corridor linking Port Harcourt, Aba and Enugu.

Udeh expressed optimism that Enugu could attract additional ministerial representation after the 2027 elections, while noting that stronger cooperation between the state and Federal Government could facilitate further development.

He also announced plans by the state government to introduce empowerment programmes for women, including financial assistance and grants for women-owned small businesses, to cushion the effects of economic hardship.

Party members were advised by participants to ensure the protection of their votes and work towards the success of APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
