The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the senatorial candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Senator Victor Umeh as winner of the Anambra Central Senatorial district election held last Saturday.
Umeh defeated the incumbent Senator Uche Ekwunife of the Peoples Democratic Party, who had battled unsuccessfully in court to stop Umeh from contesting the election. The victory of Umeh and the LP Presidential candidate, Peter Obi in Anambra central is seen as a major setback for Ekwunife, who earlier vowed to stop the duo in the senatorial zone.
Also, the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, was declared winner of the Anambra South senatorial district election. The YPP candidate polled 73,115 to win the election, while his closest rival, Hon. Chris Emeka Azubogu of APGA, came second position with 45,369. The LP and PDP trailed behind with 28,102, and 21,209 votes, respectively.
In Anambra North, LP candidate, Hon. Tony Nwoye, defeated an incumbent, Senator Stella Oduah, to become a member of the forthcoming 10th National Assembly. Summary of Anambra National Assembly Election Winners
