Nigerian female music star, Tiwa Savage, has opened up about the relentless criticism she endures, particularly regarding her choice of outfits. In a recent podcast interview, the singer expressed her frustration at being judged for wearing bikinis and how critics often age-shame her.
“They age-shame me every single day,” Tiwa lamented. “They say, ‘A woman of your age, how can you be wearing a bikini?’ But I can, because I have a body.”
Drawing a comparison, she highlighted how older women in other cultures are celebrated for maintaining their looks. “Beyoncé is in her 40s and wears bikinis, but Americans don’t age-shame her. They say, ‘For her age, black don’t crack.’ It’s celebrated when you look good as you age. But here [in Nigeria], they criticize instead.”
Tiwa also addressed remarks about the impact her appearance might have on her son. “They say, ‘When her son grows up, he’s going to see this.’ But I know my son will see me as a powerful and beautiful woman,” she said confidently.
