A Dangote truck was involved in a fatal accident at Ozalla Four Corner Junction along Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway in Enugu State on Wednesday morning. An unconfirmed number of persons, including some staff of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital and members of a family, were reportedly killed in the accident.

A video of the incident trending online shows a vehicle totally crushed by the trailer—one of the affected commuter buses. A family was said to have been in the vehicle, with eyewitnesses disclosing that none of them came out alive.

Eyewitnesses said several other passengers in the two commuter buses involved in the crash sustained injuries. One of the affected buses somersaulted. While corpses of the dead were evacuated to the UNTH, the rescued passengers were rushed to the same hospital for treatment.

This incident adds to a growing list of fatal accidents involving Dangote trucks across Nigeria. A few weeks ago, a Dangote truck struck Ruth Otabor, the sister of Big Brother Naija winner Phyna, in Edo State, resulting in her death.

In April 2024, another Dangote truck collided with a Toyota Hiace bus on the Okene-Lokoja highway, killing 19 people. The repeated occurrence of such accidents has sparked widespread outrage among Nigerians. Many citizens have taken to social media to demand stricter monitoring of heavy-duty trucks, particularly those owned by large corporations.

Advocates and safety experts are urging the government to implement immediate legislation to enforce road safety standards. They warn that without urgent measures, similar tragedies are likely to continue, putting countless lives at risk on Nigerian roads.
