Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is no longer safe in Sokoto State, his lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, said on Friday.
Lawyer Ejimakor’s lamentation is coming several hours after the United States bombed terrorists’ enclaves in Sokoto State, as ordered by President Donald Trump.
NewsBits recalls that upon conviction by Justice James Omotosho of the Abuja Federal High Court, Kanu was moved to Sokoto prison. But Ejimajor, Kanu’s lead counsel, in a statement, urged that he be immediately moved out of Sokoto prison, as his security was no longer guaranteed.

In a post via his X handle, Ejimakor said the US military action showed that Sokoto is heavily affected by terrorist activities and was never a safe location to detain Kanu. He argued that the presence of terrorists in the area poses a serious risk to Kanu’s safety and urged the authorities to relocate him to a facility outside what he described as the “terrorist belt” in northern Nigeria.
Ejimakor said: “The US military strike against terrorists in Sokoto has finally confirmed that Sokoto is riddled with terrorists & thus was never a safe place of custody for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. It’s now more urgent that he be taken outside the terrorist belt in Northern Nigeria.”
