Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that a political party was denied access to use Eagle Square in Abuja, saying no formal request was made.

Speaking on Monday, Wike said he was not aware of any application from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or any other party seeking to use the venue.

“Who denied them? I am not aware of any such development, and I don’t even know which party you are referring to. If it is the ADC, such claims are their usual attempt to gain public sympathy,” he said.

The minister explained that the use of Eagle Square follows a clear process, which includes submitting a formal application through the Abuja Investments Company Limited and paying the required fees.

“As we speak, no formal application has been submitted. When APC used the venue and PDP used the Stadium Velodrome, they followed the process. We do not deny anyone access if the rules are followed,” he added.

Wike also clarified that the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome is not under the FCT Administration but the Sports Commission. He spoke during an inspection of ongoing projects in Abuja, where he expressed satisfaction with the progress of work.

According to him, major road projects are expected to be completed by May 15, while streetlight installations will be finalised before the end of the month.

“The contractors have assured us that road works will be completed by May 15, while streetlight installations will be finalised before the end of May,” he said.

The minister further disclosed that measures are being put in place to protect road corridors in Gaduwa and that plans are underway to relocate traders from Apo Mechanic Village to a new site in Wassa.

“This project is aimed at improving the working conditions of artisans and fulfilling long-standing promises to the informal sector,” he said.

Wike on reports of damage to the Kugbo Bus Terminal after a windstorm, said the structure remained intact. He noted that only parts of the roof were affected and repairs were ongoing.

“The terminal did not collapse. What happened was that strong winds blew off parts of the roof. Repairs are ongoing,” he said, adding that “no lives were lost.”
