The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has officially zoned its presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria.
It was learnt that the decision was taken at the party’s ongoing National Convention in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. According to the NDC, the position would remain in the South for four years and move to Northern Nigeria in 2031.
A motion for the zoning of the position was moved by Afam Victor Ogene, representing Ogbaru Constituency in Anambra State in the House of Representatives. It received overwhelming support from the delegates at the convention.
NewsBits reports that the decision has boosted the chances of Mr Peter Obi clinching the presidential ticket of the NDC. Obi is expected to fly the party’s flag alongside Rabiu Kwankwaso, who defected with him to the NDC last Sunday. Key officials of the opposition party are expected to emerge unopposed from the convention.
