Tension erupted in Ijebu-Jesa, Osun State, on Wednesday after students of Interlink College of Health Technology clashed with police following the death of one of their colleagues in a road accident.

The student, identified simply as Oluwaseun, was said to be a National Diploma II student in the Mass Communication Department. He reportedly died after a motorcycle conveying him was struck by a bus along the Ijebu-Jesa/Esa-Oke Road while he was returning to town.

Angered by the incident, students reportedly stormed the accident scene and demanded that the driver of the bus involved be handed over to them. Eyewitnesses said police officers who arrived at the scene attempted to calm the situation and insisted the vehicle be moved to the station for investigation.

The situation later degenerated when some of the students allegedly tried to set the bus ablaze, forcing police operatives to disperse the crowd with tear gas. The development caused panic in parts of the community as protests spread around the town. The spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident and said calm had been restored after police intervention.

Meanwhile, the management of Interlink College of Health Technology announced the temporary closure of the institution to mourn the deceased student. The school said academic activities would resume on May 19, 2026.”
