Celebrity native doctor, Onyebuchi Okocha, aka Onyeze Jesus, could not hold back tears on Friday after he was sentenced to six years imprisonment. Onyeze Jesus has been under trial after he was arrested, alongside other native doctors, as part of Anambra State government’s clampdown on fake native doctors and pastors.
He has now been jailed by an Awka High Court over his involvement in a money ritual. The native doctor was charged under Section 18 of the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025. Hon Justice Jude Obiora, who delivered the judgment, said the defendant admitted being the person in the viral videos and ownership of the social media handles where videos were posted, claiming he had the power to make one wealthy.
The judge, however, ruled that the claims of ritual murder or money doubling could not be proven, as there was neither any proof nor any persons who testified to have benefited from the practices. He was sentenced to six years in prison with a fine of N20million. While battling tears, the convict begged the judge to show him mercy.
“My Lord, please temper justice with mercy because this is my first offence and this is the first time that I am having a court case. Since February last year, when I was arrested and have been in custody, I have not known the whereabouts of my wife and my twin children, who depend on me as the breadwinner.
“Also, since I have been in custody, three widows who depend on me have all died because there is no one taking care of them,” he begged while on his knees.
