Governor Adeleke Wins Osun Gubernatorial Election With 511,067 Votes

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has been declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election after securing 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas.

The State Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, declared Adeleke the winner at about 7:24 am on Sunday.

Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord, polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest opponent, the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes and won 11 local government areas.

The governor secured victory in Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo and Osogbo, among others.

Oyebamiji won in Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun and Obokun local government areas. The election recorded 1,005,800 total votes cast, with 985,079 valid and 20,721 rejected.

Declaring the result, Ogunwole said Adeleke had satisfied the requirements of the law and was therefore returned elected. The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third in the election. The victory returns Adeleke for a second term as governor of Osun State.
