Arsenal Football Club in England could be on the verge of losing defender Hector Bellerin this summer, if they cannot show improvement on their current position once the English Premier League (EPL) restarts. After nearly three months of suspension as a result of the ravaging Coronavirus (COVID-19), the EPL is scheduled to resume om June 17.

The Gunners have been without Champions League football for three straight seasons now and are in danger of missing out on Europe altogether next term too, as they currently reside in ninth spot with 10 games to play once the season resumes next month in the wake of the COVID-19.

According to ESPN, Bellerin remains committed to the Gunners for now and he is fully behind Mikel Arteta to turn around the club’s fortunes following a dreadful start to the season under Unai Emery, which saw him sacked at the end of November. But the report adds that without notable improvements, the likes of Juventus and Inter Milan will be keen to lure away the full-back, with the promise of regular Champions League football among their tempting offers.

In the Gunners’ favour is that the 25-year-old still has three years to run on his current contract, meaning there is little risk in his value plummeting in the next few months. However, Arsenal’s financial future looks uncertain, especially if they miss out on European football this summer for the first time in 24 years. The recent pay-cut talks held with the playing staff amid the pandemic hinted signs of financial struggle, as the club look to trim expenditure to make up on the shortfall of missing out on the Champions League in recent seasons.

After being poached from the Barcelona youth set-up nine years ago, Bellerin has spent his entire senior career at Arsenal, making his debut in 2013. Since then he has become a favourite among supporters and has featured 195 times while providing 25 assists during that period. Arsenal restart game is against high-flyers and arch rivals, Manchester City. The game is scheduled for June 17.
