Finally, Nigeria Hits 10,162 Positive Cases Of Covid-19

Nigeria on Sunday May 31, 2020 crossed the 10,000 mark as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) released its daily update, showing that the country has recorded 307 new cases of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) from across the different states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 headed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Boss Mustapha briefed President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday. Going by what Mustapha told the media after the meeting with Buhari, it is most likely that the Federal Government may have concluded plans to pass on the buck of managing COVID-19 in Nigeria to the State Governors.

According to the update, which was posted on the Twitter handle of the NCDC, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria now stands at 10,162 as at Sunday night. This figure includes the 307 new cases recorded on Sunday alone out of which Lagos State still leads the rest with 188 new cases. The update also showed that Nigeria has as at the time of this report discharged 3007 patients just as the country recorded 287 deaths since COVID-19 arrived Nigeria in February through the Italian index case in Lagos State.
