The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), Engr. Vincent Ekwekwu, has said that the relationship between EEDC and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) “is mutually beneficial”, as both organisations can leverage their respective strengths and expertise to create value.
NewsBits reports that Ekwekwu’s assertion comes as the EEDC has expressed its readiness to deepen its collaboration with the ICAN, particularly in the areas of staff capacity development, knowledge enhancement and professional training.
This was made known by Ekwekwu on Wednesday when he received a delegation from the ICAN Enugu and District Society, led by its Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Anyim, at the company’s corporate headquarters, Powerhouse, Okpara Avenue, Enugu.
He acknowledged the requests presented by the delegation and assured the Institute of EEDC’s readiness to support programmes that would strengthen the relationship between both organisations
NewsBits reports that the visit was aimed at appreciating EEDC Management for its support to the ICAN over the years and to formally present Mr. Anyim as the 19th Chairman of the ICAN Enugu and District Society, following his investiture in July 2026.
The ICAN delegation, during the visit, intimated the EEDC Management of some of the Institute’s planned programmes and areas where it would require the company’s support. Also, the delegation expressed its willingness to facilitate training and capacity-building programmes for EEDC staff to enhance their knowledge and equip them with the requisite skills to discharge their responsibilities professionally and effectively.
However, while welcoming the delegation, Engr. Ekwekwu congratulated Mr. Anyim on his emergence as Chairman of the professional body and lauded ICAN for its contributions to the growth and sustainability of businesses through the expertise and professionalism of its members.
Ekwekwu also took the guests through the transformation that has taken place in the Nigerian electricity supply industry, highlighting the evolution of EEDC and the emergence of its subsidiary electricity distribution companies following the reforms in the sector.
He explained that the transformation has resulted in the establishment of state-focused distribution companies responsible for electricity distribution in the respective states within the South-East zone.
The Group Chief Finance Officer of EEDC, Mr. Pauli Isiguzo, in his remarks, appreciated the ICAN team for the visit and acknowledged the Institute’s contributions to the company, particularly in the areas of service delivery and revenue protection.
Isiguzo urged the delegation to continue to serve as ambassadors and advocates of EEDC, stressing that the “accounting profession remains critical” to the effective management and sustainability of businesses. He said: “The good thing about ICAN and the accounting profession is that when it comes to business, you can’t do without ICAN members.”
Isiguzo also said that EEDC “is the highest single private employer of Chartered Accountants in the South-East”, underscoring the importance the company places on professional expertise and capacity development. He added that the company “is also engaging investors” interested in participating in the evolving electricity distribution space, stressing the need for strong professional capacity and effective financial management as the business environment continues to evolve.
