Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu will secure significantly more votes in the South-East in the 2027 presidential election than the All Progressives Congress (APC), recorded in the region in 2023.
Umahi made the prediction during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics while discussing the APC’s prospects in the South-East ahead of the election.
NewsBits reports that Umahi’s comments come as political parties and presidential candidates intensify preparations for the 2027 general election, with the South-East expected to be a major battleground. Umahi said he believed the party would win all five states in the zone.
The minister said Tinubu would “harvest a lot of votes” across the five South-East states, although he declined to state the exact number of votes the President would secure.
“I will not tell you whether we win the five votes of the South-East or not, but the President is going to harvest a lot of votes in the South-East. It can never be the same as it was before,” he said.
Umahi also dismissed the suggestion that Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), poses a major threat to Tinubu and the APC in the region. According to him, Obi is not the only South-East politician contesting the presidency in 2027, noting that other candidates are also seeking the support of voters in the region.
