Ebonyi NUJ Elects New Executive, Re-elects Incumbent Chairman

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi State Council, has elected a new executive, including the incumbent chairman, Comrade Samson Nwafor.

Comrade Nwafor was returned unopposed for a three-year term in office. He was sworn in alongside six others, the vice-chairman, Moses Irogu; secretary, Chinaza John; treasurer, Juliana Okoro, who were all returned unopposed.

In an address on the occasion, the Director-General of Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC), Comrade Tony Nwizi expressed satisfaction with the overall conduct of media practitioners in the state.

Comrade Nwizi who is also a former chairman of the council, assured members of the union of government’s support. He noted that the state government was committed to ensuring the welfare of journalists in the state.

In his inaugural address, the re-elected chairman, Comrade Nwafor, thanked the electoral committee led by Tony Ukwuome for conducting a credible election. He promised to continue to promote, protect, and defend the integrity of the state NUJ in Ebonyi State and Nigeria.

He thanked the administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru for its continued support to the Union, especially for giving journalists in the state free hands to perform their constitutional duties. Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in  Ebonyi State, Prof. Ogugua Egwu, also urged the newly elected leaders to take the union in the state to the next level.
