Wike Moves Against Fubara, Opts For Ex-Commissioner As Gubernatorial Candidate

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Minister, Nyesom Wike, has made good his decision that he will not support Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State for a second term. It was gathered that Wike has settled for a former Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Alabo Dakorinama George Kelly.

Recall that days ago, a group of Rivers State elders had purchased the All Progressives Congress, APC, form for Fubara. However, Wike has asked George to pick the same APC form. It was learnt that Wike settled for George after a closed-door meeting with key political stakeholders in Port Harcourt on Monday.

The meeting, according to a report by Daily Post, reportedly reviewed the political situation in the state and strategies for consolidating influence ahead of the next election cycle. Those who attended the meeting included ex-militant leaders, including Asari Dokubo and Ateke Tom.

With the development, it appears that all the efforts by President Bola Tinubu to settle the rift between Wike and Fubara did not yield any result. Fubara had defected to the APC, hoping it would bring him succour. However, current realities show that he could be the only APC governor who may not get an automatic ticket ahead of the party’s primary election.
