Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has come down hard on the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors, describing them as politically lazy.
NewsBits recalls that the APC governors, in a communique issued early Tuesday, dismissed any alliance with other political parties. Their position is believed to be a direct response to Wike’s Rainbow Coalition, which will deliver votes for President Bola Tinubu and candidates of other political parties.
But Wike, during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, accused the governors of lacking political strategy. He claimed to be armed with information that was not available to the APC governors. Wike also linked his problems with the governors to his appointment as FCT minister.
“All these things you are seeing didn’t start today; it started with the ministerial position. They are not happy, APC governors, that I was given the position of Minister of FCT. During the crisis with my governor, Fubara, they misled my governor. They couldn’t give the governor a second term.
“Now you are talking about the Rainbow Coalition being a problem. How will it be a problem? Most of us think that because we are governors, we are alpha and omega, and anything we decide must happen. It’s not true.
“I was the Minister of State when I ran for the governorship of Rivers in 2015. I defeated the candidate of the incumbent governor. “Uzodinma was the governor of Imo State, but Tinubu was not able to get 10 per cent of the votes from his state. Even in Ebonyi State, the same thing happened.
“Was it the Rainbow Coalition that also made APC win National Assembly elections in Ebonyi, Abia and Enugu states, where the President did not have 10 per cent of the votes?” he queried.
He added that the governors “are politically lazy,” stressing that “when you have your local problems, don’t use Mr President as your excuse.”
Wike said his critics would understand his position better if they had access to the information available to him.
