A 20-year-old man, Lawisi Safiyanu, has been arrested by the Jigawa State Police Command for allegedly stabbing a 25-year-old man, Muhammad Abba, during a dispute over a N500 balance from the purchase of a mobile phone.
The police disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam. The incident occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on October 1, 2026, in Chamo village, Dutse Local Government Area of the state.
According to the police, Abba had purchased a mobile phone from Safiyanu for N1,500 but paid N1,000, leaving an outstanding balance of N500. The two allegedly had a disagreement over the unpaid balance, during which Safiyanu allegedly used a knife to stab Abba.
Abba was rushed to Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital, Dutse, for medical attention but died while receiving treatment. The police said Safiyanu was arrested and the knife allegedly used in the incident was recovered. The command added that investigation into the case had been completed and the suspect charged to court.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, urged residents to avoid taking the law into their own hands and promptly report disputes and suspicious activities to the police or other security agencies.
