US President Donald Trump
United States President Donald Trump’s administration has announced a major action towards quelling the killing of Nigerians by terrorists.
NewsBits recalls that weeks back, the Trump government had declared Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern over the alleged genocidal killing of Christians. Although the Nigerian Government has consistently maintained that there is no genocide in the country, officials of the United States Government have maintained their stand.
Just days ago, the United States Congress held a session during which the situation in Nigeria featured prominently, with congressmen slamming the government over the killings. The US government has now announced visa restrictions for Nigerians funding or supporting genocide against Christians in the country.
The United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, made the announcement in a post on his official X handle on Wednesday. According to the post, the visa policy applies to Nigeria and other governments or individuals perpetrating the alleged massacre of Nigerian Christians.
He wrote, “The United States is taking decisive action in response to the atrocities and violence against Christians in Nigeria and around the world. The @StateDept will restrict U.S. visas for those who knowingly direct, authorize, fund, support, or carry out violations of religious freedom.
“This visa policy applies to Nigeria and other governments or individuals that persecute people for their religious beliefs”.
