The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published three political parties and particulars of their candidates as eligible for the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election scheduled for June 20.
NewsBits reports that the political parties and particulars of their candidates included: the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Ikeje Asogwa; the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Nestor Ezeme; and the BOOT Party (BP), Mr Chukwuebuka Aneke.
However, the by-election would be held in 1,488 polling units in six local council areas, which included: Nsukka, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South, Udenu, Igbo-Etiti, and Uzo-Uwani.
Commenting on the development in Enugu on Saturday, INEC’s State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Chukwuemeka Chukwu, said that only three parties met deadlines for submission of forms and nomination documents through the INEC Nomination Portal.
Chukwu said that with the timetable of activities approved by INEC for the by-election; June 2 remained the last day for submission of Forms EC9, EC9C, and other nomination documents by parties through the INEC Nomination Portal.
According to him, “At the close of nominations, three political parties successfully submitted the required nomination forms in respect of candidates they intend to sponsor for the by-election.
“The political parties are: APC, Boot Party (BP), and PDP. In accordance with the provisions of Sections 29(3) and 32(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026 (as amended), the Commission has received and processed the nomination documents submitted by the political parties.
“Consequently, the Forms EC9 (Personal Particulars of Candidates) and Final List of Nominated Candidates for the By-Election scheduled for June 20 shall be published by INEC in line with the Electoral Act and approved timetable of activities.”
He urged members of the public who wished to examine the particulars of the candidates to do so at the commission’s notice board in its Enugu State headquarters during official working hours.
He said that the commission remained committed to ensuring transparency and strict compliance with the Electoral Act in all stages of the electoral process, assuring all stakeholders of a level playing field throughout the conduct of the by-election.
